The 1st Annual Olivia Medici Memorial Run/Walk was a huge success. Being our first year, we really had no expectations. We just hoped people would show up to participate and help an amazing cause. With the help of a small committee, local businesses, sponsors, random supporters, race participants and friends and family, we did it! We had 230 participants (runners and walkers) and raised $16,000. Half of the proceeds went to the family support program at Duke University Medical Center (for more information on how the money helped those families, log onto www.rainbowofheroeswalk.org) and half went to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital here in Portland to the Bridges Program- A Pediatric Palliative and Comfort Care Program, and to a new “Little Tykes” computer which was donated to the hematology/oncology unit waiting area. All of this, of course, is in memory and in honor of our precious little Olivia. Every time we can help another family and their sick children, Olivia is remembered. It’s an amazing gift…full circle. We hope you’ll continue to join us year after year.
